Financial Controller

As a Financial Controller at SumUp, you will support the Controlling function in overseeing the company's financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. You will play a crucial role in financial reporting, and assist in maintaining robust controls over quality of information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting

  • Financial controller for middle tier entities within the group responsible for the statutory financial reporting 

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS/GAAP

  • Coordinate and prepare internal financial reports, management accounts and financial statements

  • Review month end results together with variance analysis for the material movements

  • Lead standalone audits and assist in the Group audit

  • Oversee the timely and accurate submissions of monthly reporting and the month end closing process

  • Oversee annual closing activities applicable for the legal entities in scope

General Ledger Management

  • Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions

  • Review of critical accounting entries of the accounting function

  • Review key reconciliation performed by accounting function as part of the month end closing process - reconciliation of bank accounts, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other balance sheet accounts

  • Review significant contracts and assess correctness of accounting records

Process Improvement

  • Identify and recommend improvements to financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy

  • Assist in the development and implementation of new accounting policies and procedures

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with other finance team members to ensure cohesive and comprehensive financial management

  • Key liaison between FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Technical Accounting, Internal and External Audit teams

  • Navigate complexity and strategic directions, in view of transfer pricing and collaborate with internal tax experts for proper reporting

  • Provide guidance to junior accounting staff as needed

  • Exercise critical judgment and remove critical blockers for the teams

  • Support ad hoc projects around due diligence, tax or internal restructuring projects

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) or Master in Accounting is required

  • Qualified or in a process of acquiring  ACCA or equivalent

  • 3 - 5 years of increasing financial responsibility in a similar position

  • Relevant experience in accounting or finance, within a fast-paced, high-growth environment

  • Experience in Big 4 would be considered as advantage

  • Robust knowledge of IFRS/GAAP financial reporting standards and financial reporting

  • Sound general legal, tax and compliance knowledge 

  • Proficient in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

  • Fluent English, both written and spoken

  • Second language is a plus (French, German, Italian)
