Compliance Officer (Maternity Cover)

We're looking to welcome to our team a Compliance Officer for SumUp UK, based in London. The Compliance Officer is an integral part of our UK and European Compliance Teams and will be working on the compliance programme of primarily UK and also Irish-regulated entities providing the regulatory framework for a large part of our European business. 

This role is essential to SumUp’s success in Europe as our product portfolio is constantly growing and our compliance team enables the business to develop products and grow in a compliant way. 

This person will report directly to the Head of Compliance UK, work closely with stakeholders from the whole SumUp and collaborate with other Governance Risk and Compliance teams such as Operational Risk, Internal Audit, Money-Laundering Officers, and more. 

This maternity cover position is estimated at 12 months based in the London office with the possibility of an extension thereafter.

What you’ll do

  • Identify relevant EU regulations applicable to SumUp, and monitor the regulatory landscape to identify applicable regulatory change

  • Conduct gap analysis on regulatory guidelines to ensure on-going compliance with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)

  • Provide subject matter expertise advice and guidance to the tribes, in respect of UK and EU requirements and regulatory expectations

  • Maintain compliance policies and procedures; annual revision and governance of mandatory policies such as Safeguarding of client funds, Consumer Duty, App Fraud Complaints handling, Conduct of Business etc. 

  • Provide support to the management of the regulatory relationship with the FCA

  • Prepare internal (board and committee) reporting and support with preparation and submission of external (regulatory) reporting

You will be great for this role, if:

  • You have generalist compliance experience in fintech, ideally in payments.

  • You have knowledge of PDS2 & EMRs (Payments Services Directive 2 & E-money regulations).

  • You have experience with compliance monitoring frameworks.

  • You have experience managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders from different levels and act as a trusted partner.

  • You’re familiar with working in complex and changing environments. 

  • You have strong communication skills.
